The Lightweight Courier Cargocycle

The first Cargocycle was built for SCS Couriers, Fortune Street, London in June 2001 using an Orange Gringo as the base cycle. Since then it has completed 1500 miles of courier work in central London and the company has taken delivery of three further machines.

Four Cargocycles were built for Moves Group, Acton, London in 2002 using Specialized and Claud Butler mountain bikes as the base cycles. These ‘Medibikes’ are used to carry blood between London Hospitals.

I spent a couple of years building Cargocycles for various companies…

SCS Couriers. Moves Group. City Sprint. Road Riders of Manchester. Waltham Street Cycles of Oxford. The London Borough of Lewisham.

I even began offering a service where I could convert a customer’s own bike to a Cargocycle. The advantage was that the converted bike has the same riding ‘feel’ as the original. Because the saddle / handlebars / gears configuration hasn’t been changed.

This is a list of manufacturers cycles that I successfully converted to Cargocycles…

Cannondale, Trek, Orange Gringo, Scott, Specialized Hardrock, Claud Butler, Falcon, Raleigh, Redline, Townsend.
